Magebit's Exclusive Two-Week Bootcamp: Nurturing the Next Generation of Developers
At Magebit we're all about leveling up and embracing change. After the epic success of last year's bootcamp, there wasn't the slightest doubt that we needed to repeat it. So, here we're, rolling out our second two-week bootcamp in a row!
Planned and executed by our awesome team, this year wasn't just about hitting those code lines. We dove deep into the world of e-commerce and made sure everyone got a taste of the real deal. For two years in a row, our bootcamps have stood as a testament to Magebit's commitment to nurturing talent.
The Trainers
Guiding our participants were the industry stalwarts - Ilvars Švanda and Edvards Dergačevs. Their extensive knowledge and tireless dedication ensured that each participant was not only taught, but also guided to prepare them for the challenges of e-commerce development.
Program Structure and Guest Lectures
Our bootcamp curriculum was like a tech playground where coding met real-world action. The main part of the program consisted of web development modules where everyone got their hands dirty with Laravel. From back-end feature development to painting the front-end design, the tasks were as varied as they were exciting.
The projects? Oh, they were the real deal! Tailored to real-life scenarios and took our participants into the depths of strategic planning, teamwork, and effective communication.
But hey, it wasn't all about hardcore coding. We spiced up the learning experience with some excellent guest lectures. Covering the cool topics like UX design, HR dynamics and the agile PM methods, these talks were the cherries on top of cake. Led by industry experts who enriched the curriculum with current and actionable insights and ensured that everyone got a glimpse into the broader tech landscape.
Team Dynamics
One of the unique features of the bootcamp was the team-based approach to learning.
From day one, participants were divided into four teams of five, each handled a unique project to complete over two weeks. These projects, mirroring real-life scenarios, presented several challenges. The diverse team composition called for a harmonious approach to achieve a shared vision, and that's where the Agile method came into play, facilitating a continuous feedback cycle and adaptability.
Freedom in project design encouraged creativity, but also demanded a sense of maintaining a unified direction. This adaptable approach, reflecting the realistic IT work conditions, resulted in a significant outcome.
This dynamic not only improved participants' technical skills, but also enhanced their communication, teamwork, and ability to respond to feedback, reflecting the core of the Magebit ethos.
Communication and Collaboration
The bootcamp was as much about building relationships and connections as it was about coding. The Discord tool served as a lifeline and ensured seamless interaction between teams and trainers.
Welcome aboard!
From a sea of enthusiastic applicants, only 20 were chosen to participate in the bootcamp. Among them, Maikls Eglītis and Aleks Grišins shone, and their diligence and achievements didn't go unnoticed.
Upon completion of the bootcamp, they were offered positions at Magebit and went from bootcamp newbies to full-fledged members of our team.
Success Stories
Aleks Grišins recounted his career path:
"The first feelings I had when entering the office were of course fear (in a good way) and excitement! It feels amazing - and that's an understatement! The people here, the atmosphere and the office - everything together just forms a place of zen. I was feeling really welcome since the moment I stepped foot in the office. A special thanks goes out to my team manager, and the HR team - from what I experienced, you have a talent at doing what you do!
I don't want to over-exaggerate, but for me personally, I'd say - life changing!
First week of the bootcamp was... bumpy, but filled with great experiences - we all had to adapt to changes fast, we were given a really small time frame to create a fully functional project - challenging, but exciting! At the start of the bootcamp, I was really anxious about not being good enough, but it soon changed, because the trainers, and my team members were very supportive, and down to earth, which made the whole experience very pleasant throughout the bootcamp.”
Maikls Eglitis, reflecting on his experience:
“When I heard about this opportunity, I didn't think twice and applied, which turned out to be a very intense learning experience. I had never participated in such an event before, so I didn't know what to expect.
The most important benefit of the bootcamp was, of course, the experience of working in a team. It's one thing to do a task or solve a problem on your own, but it's quite another to work in a team where you need to be able to organize yourself and work as efficiently as possible towards a common goal, taking into account the skills and qualities of the team members.
I quickly realized that I really liked the working environment and the Magebit team, so I applied for the Junior Web Developer position the very next day after the bootcamp.
Merchandise and Gifts
To commemorate this transformative journey, Magebit created special merchandise packs, a token of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of participants and instructors alike.
Energy Assistance
We thank Red Bull from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our journey and contributing to the success of our bootcamp. The iconic red and silver cans became a common sight in workplaces and gave our teams the much needed wings to tackle the challenges of their projects.
Summation
Looking back on the bootcamp, we can confidently say that year after year we find and develop new talents. This bootcamp, organized without the involvement of any external organizations, is another reason to be proud of our work. It will be a reminder for us of the limitless potential of the people involved and the wonders that can be achieved if they are given the right platform.
