Magebit Joins Industry Leaders to Launch Latvia's First E-commerce Association

Latvian e-commerce has been growing fast, but mostly in isolation.

Anyone who has worked in e-commerce long enough knows the industry can be chaotic. One day, you’re dealing with shipping issues, the next day, you might have your hands full with fraud prevention, payment provider problems, Meta account bans, and more.

And the reality is, most companies are usually solving the exact same problems at the exact same time, just separately. That’s been one of the biggest missing pieces in Latvian e-commerce for years.

That’s exactly why Latvijas E-komercijas Asociācija (LATEKA) has now formed. After years of rapid growth and a new generation of ambitious online businesses emerging from the Baltics, Latvia officially has its first specialized e-commerce industry association.

And we’re proud of the fact that Magebit is leading the organization with our CEO as the Chairman of the Board. This is not just another business association or networking group.

It has a much bigger goal: bringing together the entire Latvian e-commerce ecosystem under one roof (merchants, agencies, payment providers, logistics companies, banks, platforms, and technology partners) to help the industry grow faster, smarter, and more competitively.

Why Magebit joined as a founding member

At Magebit, we spend every day working with e-commerce companies in different stages of growth — from scaling brands to enterprise merchants operating across multiple markets.

And after enough years in this industry, you start noticing patterns. The strongest e-commerce markets are usually not the ones with the most companies. They’re the ones where:

  • Operators talk to each other
  • Merchants can learn from people who have already solved similar problems
  • Founders don’t need to figure everything out alone from scratch

That’s part of what makes ecosystems like Shopify’s community, Nordic commerce networks, or larger European e-commerce hubs so powerful. The Baltics have had the talent for a long time.

What we haven’t really had is enough industry infrastructure around it. That’s the bigger opportunity behind LATEKA.

So what is LATEKA actually building?

This is the part that made us genuinely excited about the initiative. LATEKA is not trying to become another passive business association where companies show up twice a year for photos and panel discussions.

The focus is much more practical with initiatives like:

  • A closed Slack community where operators can openly discuss what’s working and what’s not
  • Direct access to legal and cybersecurity experts from companies like Sorainen and Abian Security
  • Workshops and masterclasses with people actually running e-commerce businesses
  • Industry research and shared market data
  • Stronger collaboration between merchants, agencies, logistics providers, banks, and technology partners.

Because honestly, one good conversation in e-commerce can save months of mistakes. A single insight about retention, logistics, conversion optimization, or fraud prevention can have a bigger impact than another generic LinkedIn growth hack post. And right now, too much of that knowledge still lives in silos.

What’s next?

LATEKA is only getting started, and the roadmap already shows a much bigger ambition than simply building another industry network. Some of the initiatives already planned include:

  • “Drošs Veikals” (“Safe Store”) certification — a quality seal designed to help consumers identify trustworthy online stores and shop with greater confidence. The goal is to raise standards around safety, transparency, and customer experience across Latvian e-commerce.
  • Integration with the Ecommerce Europe Trustmark — LATEKA plans to connect the “Drošs Veikals” certification with the wider European trustmark network, giving certified Latvian stores stronger international recognition.
  • Membership in Ecommerce Europe — allowing LATEKA to represent Latvian e-commerce at a European level while giving members access to broader industry research, data, insights, and international connections.
  • Baltic Ecommerce Awards — a new initiative focused on recognizing the best e-commerce companies in the Baltics and helping inspire the next generation of industry growth and innovation.

Taken together, these initiatives make one thing very clear: LATeKA is being built as long-term infrastructure for the future of Baltic e-commerce, not just another networking organization.

An ecosystem effort, not a single-company initiative

Brands associated with LATEKA

One of the most exciting parts about LATEKA is the range of companies involved from day one. The founding members include companies from across the entire e-commerce value chain.

That diversity matters. Modern e-commerce is no longer just about launching a storefront. It’s an interconnected ecosystem where payments, logistics, customer experience, technology, and operations all directly impact growth.

Having banks, fulfillment providers, retailers, technology companies, and agencies working together under the same organization creates opportunities for faster innovation and better industry-wide standards.

It also gives Latvian e-commerce a stronger collective voice internationally.

Built by people deep in the industry

Leadership structure of LATEKA

Another reason LATEKA feels different is the people behind it. The association is being led by operators, founders, and industry leaders who have spent years actively building e-commerce businesses in the Baltics, not just talking about the industry from the outside.

The association is chaired by Artūrs Krūze, CEO at Magebit, with Kristaps Rjabovs, C-founder at Magebit, serving on the board, alongside council members including Artūrs Hotulovs, Lauris Rutkis, Māris Kuļikovskis, Aigars Cepītis, Edgars Kebbe, and Dmitry Petrenko.

And honestly, that kind of leadership matters. E-commerce moves too fast for purely theoretical discussions.

The people shaping LATEKA are dealing with the same operational, growth, logistics, payment, and scaling challenges the industry faces every day. That gives the association a much more practical, operator-first mindset from the start.

Why join LATEKA?

LATEKA is created to help Latvian e-commerce companies grow through stronger industry connections, shared knowledge, better visibility, and practical support.

  1. Learn from real industry experience

LATEKA is building a space where the trial-and-error phase is shortened. By connecting merchants, agencies, and operators, it turns individual experiences into a big knowledge hub.

Through its closed community and expert-led workshops, you get direct answers to the questions that matter, backed by real market data and research, not just theory.

  1. Build visibility and stronger industry connections

LATEKA provides a seat at the table with the region’s most influential payment providers, banks, and logistics giants. By bridging the gap between merchants and technology partners, it will help you build the reputation you need to scale.

Whether it's gaining brand authority through knowledge sharing or increasing visibility through association-led events, LATEKA ensures your business is seen by the right people at the right time.

  1. Get practical support and industry representation

Navigating the complexities of GDPR, cybersecurity, and evolving EU regulations is a full-time job. Doing it alone is a risk; doing it together is a strategy.

LATEKA provides the practical support merchants actually need, from direct access to compliance specialists to shared cybersecurity intelligence.

It will also serve as your advocate within Ecommerce Europe, making sure Latvian businesses have the same influence as their international competitors.

How to join?

If you’re building in e-commerce, LATEKA is open for you. It is focused on companies that want to actively contribute to the growth of the Latvian e-commerce ecosystem.

You can learn more about the association, membership opportunities, and upcoming initiatives on the LATEKA official website or follow updates on LATEKA LinkedIn.

Final thoughts

Latvian e-commerce already has the companies, talent, and ambition to compete internationally. That part is no longer the question.

The bigger opportunity now is building a stronger ecosystem around it, one where operators share knowledge faster and companies collaborate more openly. That’s what makes LATEKA important.

At Magebit, we’re excited to help shape that future as a founding member. And honestly, it feels like this is only the beginning.

If you’re exploring ecommerce opportunities or simply want to learn more about where Latvian e-commerce is heading next, feel free to reach out to the Magebit team. We’re always happy to connect with people building ambitious things in the space.

Why was LATEKA created?

Latvian e-commerce has grown rapidly over the last few years, but much of the industry has still been operating in silos. LATEKA was created to make the ecosystem more connected, competitive, and collaborative by giving companies access to shared knowledge, stronger industry relationships, and better support structures.

Who founded LATEKA?

LATEKA was founded by leading companies and operators from across the Latvian e-commerce ecosystem, including Magebit and other businesses working in payments, logistics, technology, retail, and e-commerce services.

Why did Magebit become a founding member of LATEKA?

Working closely with fast-growing e-commerce brands across international markets, Magebit has seen how much stronger ecosystems accelerate growth. Joining LATEKA as a founding member was a natural step toward building a more connected and collaborative Baltic e-commerce industry.
