Baltic Defence College

The Baltic Defence College is a NATO-accredited professional military education institution based in Tartu. It brings together senior officers from allied nations to strengthen leadership, operational planning, and strategic thinking across defense organizations.

In 2025, Magebit’s Agile Coaches got the special opportunity to introduce Agile ways of working at this international training facility.

About the project

The Baltic Defence College trains senior officers to lead multinational operations, manage resources, and make decisions in rapidly changing environments.

Such responsibility demands structured ways to prioritize, coordinate teams, and adjust plans without losing momentum. Agile provides exactly that balance.

Magebit participated in an on-site coaching day where officers could test how Agile methods apply to real defense scenarios. More than 80 participants from multiple nations took part.

Client challenges

The college aimed to broaden how leaders think about execution and change:

  1. Show how Agile works outside IT
  2. Demonstrate structured adaptability
  3. Provide practical, applicable tools
  4. Encourage collaboration across international groups
  5. Translate modern delivery thinking into defense contexts

The role of Magebit
Where digital magic comes to life

Magebit’s Agile Coaches designed the day around participation, not passive listening. Instead of long lectures, learning alternated between short theory sessions, group exercises, and reflection.

  • Learning by doing
Officers worked side by side to test new approaches. As teams interacted, the environment quickly became collaborative and solution-focused. The goal was to make Agile tangible and usable.
  • From commerce to command
We introduced core elements such as Agile values, Scrum and Kanban frameworks, and Lean thinking. While these practices power complex ecommerce delivery at Magebit, they also opened new perspectives for military leaders managing scope, resources, and uncertainty.
  • Clearing the myths
A common concern was that Agile removes structure. Our coaches demonstrated the opposite: roles, responsibilities, and goals remain clear, but teams gain the ability to adjust when reality changes.
  • Applying Agile to complex systems
To close the day, participants designed a concept for an AI-powered military tool integrating finance, personnel, missions, and logistics data.

Working in groups, they built backlogs, prioritized features, mapped initial iterations, and estimated effort. By breaking ambition into manageable steps, officers saw how Agile can organize even the most demanding initiatives.
