My 1st Years
My 1st Years is a UK children's gifting brand specializing in personalized products. Based in Northampton, the company produces gifts with names, monograms, and embroidery, with each personalized order ultimately going through its own workshop.
The brand sells across the UK and Ireland, making reliable product data, localized commerce, and accurate order information essential to the online experience.

About the project
Personalization is at the heart of My 1st Years’ business, with every order carrying product and personalization details through to the workshop. As the store grew, its Magento setup had accumulated fragmented product data, duplicate images, and a large app stack.
Magebit migrated the store to Shopify Plus and built Engine to streamline product information and production workflows.

Client challenges
The replatform had to solve several challenges beyond moving the storefront:
- Clean up fragmented Magento product data and duplicated assets
- Keep personalization data accurate from checkout through workshop production
- Replace scattered product content with a centralized product information system
- Calculate VAT correctly for bundles made up of products with different tax components
- Rationalize a large app stack while retaining essential functionality
- Integrate the new storefront with the client’s ERP and production workflow

BeforeAfterThe role of Magebit
Where digital magic comes to life
Magebit led the replatform from Magento to Shopify Plus, covering storefront design, engineering, product data, integrations, and performance.
- Centralizing product information
Magebit built Engine, a custom PIM that brings product details, care instructions, warnings, size guides, and imagery into one place, creating a more structured way to manage the catalog. - Connecting orders to production
Magebit connected Shopify, Engine, and Odoo so completed orders and their personalization details are passed through to the workshop for production. - Simplifying the app ecosystem and optimizing the store
Magebit streamlined the app stack, including selecting a bundle solution that correctly calculates VAT for each product within a bundle. The team also audited Core Web Vitals and addressed key performance issues affecting speed, responsiveness, and visual stability. - Building a live product configurator
Magebit built a live configurator that lets customers add a name, choose a font and color, and preview the personalization on the product before purchasing. The experience works across desktop and mobile while keeping the path to checkout smooth.
