About the project
To extend its reach into online payment acceptance, Airwallex created a payment gateway and needed tailored integrations for the Magento 2 and Shopify ecosystems - where Magebit came into play.

Client Challenges
Airwallex aimed to expand its payment gateway adoption on popular e-commerce platforms but faced several hurdles:
- Airwallex required specialized Magento 2 and Shopify knowledge to develop secure extensions.
- Handling sensitive credit card data demanded a secure, compliant solution that never stored card information on merchants’ servers.
- High-volume checkout events risked exceeding time-based API constraints, creating potential bottlenecks.
- Extensions had to meet strict coding and security standards for a successful listing in the Magento and Shopify Marketplaces.
The role of Magebit
Where digital magic comes to life
Magebit collaborated with Airwallex to develop and deploy robust, PCI DSS-compliant payment gateway extensions, each overcoming unique technical challenges:
- PCI DSS alignment
Employed iframe-based card entry so all credit card data (number, expiry, CVV) remains under Airwallex’s secure control, removing liability from the merchant. - Cloud infrastructure creation
Created a secure cloud infrastructure to facilitate the payments for Airwallex payment gateway. - Shopify middleware solution
Built an advanced middleware to synchronize product and pricing data externally, minimizing checkout API calls. - Technical consultation & support
Provided best-practice guidance on secure payment flows, API optimization, and ongoing maintenance to ensure stability at scale.
